About ESTA

ESTA is the critical link between the Victorian community and the state's emergency services agencies and it partners with the agencies to improve service delivery to the community. It provides Victoria's 24-hour emergency call-taking and dispatch services for police, fire, ambulance and VICSES and manages the provision of advanced, operational communications for police, ambulance, fire services and the SES. And its central goal is to save lives and prevent harm through speed and accuracy in emergency operations.

ESTA is currently implementing its Integrated Strategic Plan (ISP2023) setting ESTA's strategic direction, including a technology uplift and enablement.

About the role

This is an exciting time to join Information Technology Services (ITS) within ESTA. We launch our new information technology operating model to best meet the needs of ESTA and our stakeholders from July 2019 and your vision, experience and contribution as a senior member of the ITS team will be paramount to the success of ESTA now and into the future.

The Senior System Administrator is part of the Operate and Maintain Team within ITS and reports directly to the Technical Support Team Leader. You will be responsible for managing our server and network infrastructures. This role will work closely with ESTA business units and vendors to ensure that all of our operating systems run smoothly and without disruption.

The variety and challenge in this role will come from the following duties:

  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks and resolve any potential security risks
  • Analyse problems within the IT environment and provide improvement solutions
  • Administer and maintain ESTA's applications and Microsoft Windows Systems
  • Manage any delivery changes within asset records and change documentation
  • Mentoring team members within service desk and system administration

As part of the ITS team, you may be required to travel or transfer between your primary work location and other ESTA sites to effectively carry out your duties.

About you

This is a great opportunity for an experienced System Administrator with experience within backup and disaster recovery systems. You must have extensive experience within a large organisation that supports 24x7 operating systems and IT infrastructure. You will also have working knowledge and a confident understanding of change management within IT environments, including the improvement and delivery implementation areas of the process. You also have extensive experience working with Microsoft Server 2008-16, VMWare vSphere, SAN storage, Dell servers and Citrix. 

You have confident communication and interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to build rapport easily with internal and external stakeholders.
